In our recent coordination and co-sponsorship of the ViDAS Veterinary Spay/Neuter Clinic in Tulum, Mexico we were able to accomplish 1004 sterilization surgeries in JUST 6 DAYS! Lost Dog Foundation has been a contributor to the ViDAS s/n campaigns in the last several prior years in Playa del Carmen where up to 1,600 animals were sterilized in 6 days… but this was our first large-scale one in Tulum. Lost Dog Foundation’s partner/offshoot organization, Help Tulum Dogs, was the on-the-ground organization and has assisted in caring for many dogs from the clinic since. We were pleased to see so many dogs arrive to the Tulum clinic in reasonably good shape, as we always brace ourselves for the possible physical conditions of dogs–but we were pleasantly surprised! We had the help of SO MANY amazing volunteers from Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, and some from Calgary, Saskatchewan, Vancouver, NY, Toronto, and Oregon! So many dedicated people under one big dome for a week! It’s a constant battle we will have to continue to fight, but we are thrilled with the outcome of this recent clinic. We need ‘angels’ to sponsor upcoming clinics, so that we can continue our work to bring down the enormous numbers of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens born in Mexico. We all love puppies and kittens, of course, but there are just not enough homes for them and in Mexico, that leads to lives of sickness, homelessness and desperation. For just a fraction of what a spay/neuter clinic costs to sponsor in the US or Canada, we can make it happen for so much less in Mexico (on average, we can spay and neuter 100-150 animals per day in our clinics, depending on our funding levels). WANT TO BE A FLIGHT ANGEL? Are you flying soon from Cancun to the US or Canada? Many dogs await a traveler helper to get them to their new lives, and we can often pair you up with a rescue who needs a dog or several transported. On occasion, rescues are willing to purchase a plane ticket to make this happen but normally we all rely on travelers who already have travel plans in place.
